EN ISO 11611

Welding & allied processes

This standard specifies protective clothing used during welding or related processes where there is a risk of small droplets of molten metal adhering to the garment, brief contact with open flames, radiant heat from the welding arc, and electric shock from short and accidental contact with live conductors up to approximately 100 V DC under normal welding conditions.

The standard is divided into two classes, each representing a different risk level. The fabric’s performance during welding is tested with either 15 droplets (Class 1) or 25 droplets (Class 2) of molten metal. Garment design is also a key parameter in CE marking for welding apparel. UV radiation and radiant heat from welding challenge the protective clothing, and to prevent user exposure, fabrics approved to EN ISO 11611 Class 2 often have a heavier weight.

Class 1

Protection for less hazardous welding techniques and situations that produce lower levels of molten metal droplets and radiant heat.

Number of Tested Droplets: 15

Radiant Heat (RHTI24) (Reaction Time, seconds):  ≥ 7

Electrical Resistance (Ω):  > 10⁵

Class 2

Protection for more hazardous welding techniques and situations that produce higher levels of molten metal droplets and radiant heat.

Number of Tested Droplets: 25

Radiant Heat (RHTI24) (Reaction Time, seconds):  ≥ 16

Electrical Resistance (Ω):  > 10⁵
